Photography on textile, ash, embroidery and collage
Edition 1/1
69 x 94 cm / 27.2 × 37.0 in
In the artist’s own words:
“I started with a photograph I had taken. Once the image was printed on the fabric, I continued to develop it by adding figures, masks, and various presences to the back. These elements are not external to the person. They represent what, once absorbed, enters the person, inhabits them, and ultimately becomes part of who they are. I then covered a large portion of the fabric with charcoal. This material allowed me to make the image shift between appearing and disappearing, while giving a sense of presence to this circular energy without attempting to represent it precisely. The work took shape intuitively, centered on what we receive, what we carry, and what ultimately transforms us. It was from this exploration that the title Absorption emerged.”
