About the “Bomvu”series

'Bomvu' directly translates to the color Red in Xhosa, one of the 11 African languages spoken in South Africa. In this series, I strove to create images with a modem, minimalist aesthetic, celebrating form, color, and symmetry. My stylist Anna and I were Inspired by the recurring circular and triangular patterns found in tribal African garments and headwear. By consciously limiting the design of our props to these two distinct shapes in varied sizes, we not only achieved visual consistency but also embraced the 'less is more' principle. This self-imposed limitation surprisingly fostered more creativity. To further enrich this concept, each prop was intricately designed with repetitive patterns using a laser cutting machine, giving depth to the images and making the props appear multi-dimensional."
