HEAD IN SPACE

Within a wider context of the black hair story that the artist continues to explore, the HEAD IN SPACE series uses lines, layered images and dynamic colours to create fantasies of a culture capable of defying enclosures and tropes. His new series, while still anchored to the Igbo fashion culture of the 70s, attempts to push portraiture and depictions of woven hair to fresh directions. Concealed faces seems to question the concept of presence and immediate recognition and hair stalks mimic clustered forests growing in different directions. The artist tries to work out what's possible between de- emphasizing the expected image and retaining the hair as a subject of focus
